This is a copy of the little religious item that was carried by the army men in WWII made by me DIY

This is the photo album cover I use the plastic sheets on the inside for other projects.  You will see what I use this album for.

I took off the fake leather covers off the album, this will be cut up for this project.

I took the piece of leather looking material which you can see in this picture, this material is flipped over so I could write the size that you need to cut on it.  In this picture you can see the size you need to cut.

I then took a piece of material that I cut from an old sweatshirt of mine to the same size as the leather looking piece.  I did a quick stitch to hold both pieces together.  Make sure you sew the material on the side that is not the leather looking side.

I also cut two pieces of card type material to fit in two different spots on the material.  I made my pieces 1 3/4 inches X 2 9/16 inches.  You will be needing a space in the middle of them so you can close this up.

This picture is of the material from the sweatshirt that I cut up.

These are the two different square pieces I cut for this project.  You could also use a card that you had, to make these two pieces as long as the card is sturdy.

In this picture I sewed a decorative stitch around the edges of the squares and sewed some religious items onto them.

This is the leather looking material with the sweatshirt material on it, I put a little red stitching around it. I also sewed a cross onto it, when I sewed the cross on I sewed it onto the sweatshirt material and made sure I didn't go through the leather looking material.  If you look on the point on top I added half of the snap for keeping it closed which you will see.

This is a close up of the piece of the snap I added.

I then glued down the two square card boards that have the religious items sewed on them.  Make sure when you glue down the squares that you can fold it up.  The other part of the snap needs to be sewed to the outside on the leather looking material as you will see in the next photo.

I know it's hard to see exactly where this snap goes so what I did was close up the leather pouch so I could see where it goes so you can see where it needs to be sewed on.

This is what this looks like when it is closed and snapped shut.  If you look at my post before this one you will see the real antique one from WWII that I copied off of.  Make sure you read my blog before this one so you can get some more information for doing this project.  This would be something nice to send out to an army man or woman, navy, coast guard etc.

This project could have items in it that has a meaning to the service men and woman.  Just like with WWII soldiers its nice to have a religious item that you can carry around with you.  An antique item that can be brought back and cherished and also to let them know you are not forgotten God is with you!

This is a religious item the men carried around in WW2

This is a picture of two of the religious items some of the men in WW2 carried around with them
This is the inside of one of them, as you can see in the photo there is a small cross, two religious metals
On the left there is a small paper which reads: Act of contrition, O my God I am truly sorry for my sins.  I will never sin again.  In the middle is a heart made of felt, on it it reads: Place on thy heart one drop of the precious blood of Jesus and fear nothing.  On the other side of this heart is a photo of Jesus and words around him.  Next picture I will show you the other side. The picture under this one is suppose to be in this spot, they got switched.

This is the other one I have.  As you can see there are different religious items in it.  Both these items fold up like a book.  I am going to try to make one of these with different items in it.  This would be something that you could make and send it to your son or daughter that is in the army, navy, coast guards, etc.  The material on the inside could be a piece of material from your clothing, their child's clothing etc. make it a personal item, add a small picture on the inside of the family etc.  I'm sure you can come up with something unique.  I will post this project step by step, remember I am not a professional just someone that believes in faith and having a part of family with you even though you can't be there.  For those that are religious add your religious pictures metals etc, that is what I am going to do for my post.  Keep watching my posts you will see the copy I will be making.

Making a scapular DIY great addition to a bible, or for religious class project

This is some of the supplies you will need for this project. On top is a paper with pictures of mother Mary on it that I downloaded off the Internet.  You can make any saint you want etc.  Just make sure you print them to the size you need.  You also need shoe laces.
This is another item you will need a sheet of felt that is stiff and has sticky paper you remove in the back of it.
The first thing I did was cut out the two pictures I was going to use, a picture of Mother Mary and the other says immaculate heart of Mary pray for us now and at the hour of our death.  Also I cut the shoe laces down to size that I needed them to be, make sure you cut 2 of them to the same size. I made mine 15 inches long.  I also cut 4 pieces of the hard felt material into 1 1/2 by 2 inches.  If they don't come out perfect in size don't worry it can be fixed.  One of the square pieces I turned it over so you can see the backing that you peel off for the sticky part.
You also need a photo album, which you will need for the plastic sheets.
I took the plastic sheets out so I could use just the plastic.  The paper backing I'm putting away for another project.
In this picture you can see I took the paper backing off two of the felt pieces and put the two pictures on them I'm using for this one.  Make sure the square is larger than the pictures, the picture should be centered in the middle of the squares.
Now I took the plastic from the photo album and put it right down on the sticky side that already has the pictures on them.  Now you need to cut around the felt so it looks neat.
In this picture you can see on top the two pictures that are have the plastic trimmed around them.  The bottom picture is one of the felt pieces that has no picture on it. as you can see I took the two shoelaces and put them down on the sticky part.
In this picture I took the one picture and placed it down on top of the other felt piece that had the shoelaces on it.
I did the same thing for the other side.  Just make sure the shoelaces are the same size and are not twisted but are flat.
This is some of them that I finished.  Best of all there is NO mess with glue making them.  Keep your eyes on my blog I will be making something that the soldiers in wwII use to carry around with them in their pockets.  I will be showing you one that I have from WWII and how to make one.  Stay tuned!
