Making dollhouse railings from a salvaged Barbie dollhouse

In this picture you can see the piece I took off a plastic Barbie doll house. They were orange.

In this photo you can see how I cut one piece into many, painted them with nail polish and put some nail polish sprinkles on the top diamond on it.  Using pieces from a plastic Barbie doll house or any plastic house can be turned into anything you can think of.  Use your imagination and it can soar!

Another view, which I also added some miniature lighthouses to the front also.

Another view.

How to make a refrigerator for a dollhouse

I used a wooden box for the refrigerator. You can usually find these at craft stores, or online.

This box I got in the craft store it opens a closes great for a refrigerator.

The first thing I did was paint the box the color I wanted the refrigerator to be, which was red.  I then downloaded pictures of the inside of a refrigerator and the outside of a red refrigerator.  I then mod podged the pictures on the areas that they were needed.

This is what the inside looks like. I painted the inside white.  I also added some shelves which were white wooden blinds that I cut up and glued to the inside.  I then added a couple grocery items.  Use your imagination and it will soar!

How to make floating shelves for a dollhouse

I cut a piece of wood for the size I wanted the shelf to be. You could use one of the paint stirring sticks for this part.

I then glued a piece of felt to the top.

I cut a piece of cuboid shaped wood for under the shelf that I glued towards the back for security and stability to help when gluing it all onto the wall.

This is what it looks like when it’s glued on.

I then took this piece of trim work and glued it around the front and sides of the shelf for decorative reasons.

This is what the shelf looks like above the sink, stove and dishwasher.  My other blog post shows you how to make this one piece. Use your imagination, and it will soar!

Making a couch for a dollhouse

The first thing I did was cut this box in half.

This is one of the pieces I will be making the couch out of.

I paint the couch with my fingers with dark brown paint.

I then take cardboard and cut the pieces that I need for the couch, you can see them in the photo.

I then cut pieces of quilt batting and hot glue the pieces onto the cardboard.

I then cover all the pieces with felt or you can use any type of material you want to.

I hot glued the back piece on, then the cushions and then the side pieces.

I then hot glue a piece of lace around the bottom as a skirt.

I also glue on another piece of lace over the back of the couch. I then added legs to the couch, I had used four dice and painted them gold.  Just use your imagination and it will soar!

Making a glass coffee table for dollhouse

In the craft stores they sell little wooden boxes, this used to be one.  I took the screws out of it and I am using the top piece for the table. Keep the screws in a little medicine bottle just in case you ever need them, the bottom of the box should be put away to use for another project.

You will need to cut a piece of wood the size of the bottom of the top piece.  If you don’t have wood use a thick piece of cardboard.

Now choose a piece of wide ribbon or material that you will be using to cover over the one side of the cardboard piece.

In this picture you will see that I glued this ribbon material over one side of the wood piece.

I chose this cameo for on this red ribbon which I glued down into place.  You can put whatever you want in it, small photos of the family, a small necklace made out of small beads the list goes on and on.  This will be one of those tables you can see items in.  You can even glue down small shells, use your imagination!

Next glue the top onto the red velvet piece that has items glued down to it.

I am showing the side of the box where the screws were removed, we will be taking care of that in a moment.

I took brown paint using my finger, painted the top and sides. When you do this it looks like you stained it.

In this picture you can see how I glue things I first put on some glue in different spots, then I used hot glue gun in the spots that the tacky glue is not.  This way the hot glue holds the piece while the glue is drying. In the picture to the right, you can see ribbon that I will be gluing on the bottom edge to hide the screw area.  I glue this all around the bottom as you will see in the next photo.

In this picture you will see the ribbon.

For the legs of this table I chose these pieces of wood I had laying around.  I cut the pieces down so I have flat bottoms using the item I have in the next photo.  I then paint them brown the same way I did the coffee table top.

This is the tool I always use,  easy!

I then glued the legs on after I cut them down.

This is what the top looks like right now before painting some gold detailing.

This picture you can see gold detailing which I use craft smart brand, the color is metallic Gold.

Another view of this table.  Make the inside of this table personalized to fit into a vacation scene, special day etc.  use your imagination and it will soar!

Continued kitchen stove, dishwasher and sink for dollhouse

This is what I started with, it’s a piece from a trophy.  If you see trophies for free there are a lot of parts you could use to make things. I’m going to make a kitchen stove, dishwasher and sink for a dollhouse.

This is what this piece looks like from this angle.  Now to start adding the black foam board...

I added foam board to the sides, top and lastly the front.  You don’t need to add any to the underside or the back if you are going to glue it against a wall in a dollhouse.

Next I used these thin wooden stirrer type sticks.

This is where you decide where to place the stirrers to form the stove, dishwasher and sink area.  You can see where I glued down sticks to divide up the areas.

This is what the sides look like. I've found that by adding these stirrers, it gives it depth. Rather than just painting them.

This is the studded belt that I used to make "tiles" on the countertop over top of the dishwasher. I glued them down with a hot glue gun and tacky glue.

Here’s what it looks like with the tiles glued down.

I cut this piece of black foam board which I bought from the dollar store for the sink. My post before this one shows you how to make the sink.

In this picture you can see the sink, dishwasher and the stove.  I downloaded pictures off the internet for these areas, I mod podged the pictures on so it looks like they are really there. In the area under the sink I added some pieces of a gutter guard and two wooden beads for the cabinet knobs.

Another view.

And another.

Make sure you check out the post about making the sink faucet, knobs and dish sprayer. Use your imagination and it can soar!
