How to make a "stone wall" for a dollhouse

You will need these types of egg cartons or any type of cardboard that resembles this cardboard.  I cut out the cardboard to make easier pieces to work with.  You need to cut out stone looking pieces out of this cardboard.  I cut out circles of different sizes and off shapes.

Using the tacky glue to glue the circles onto the areas that you want to texture like stone. On the left you can see what it looks like with them glued on and on the right after they are glued on and painted. The background color is a lighter gray than what the "stones" are painted.

In this picture you can see it all painted with the gray. Now for the detailing on the stones.

I use a piece of aluminum foil so I can mix the colors together, it also makes for an easy cleanup.

The first color I use is I mix the gray with a little dark brown.  Using a hard bristle paint brush, the kind you use for stenciling. I dab this color on the stones,  make sure you don’t put a lot on the brush use the amount that you would use if you were stenciling.  I smear the color on the aluminum foil to get it thin layer to dab.  Once that color is on the stones I add a little black to that color and do the same thing all over.  However dab the colors in different areas, not a lot small amount; you want it thin not thick.  Once you added this color in take your paint brush and wash it out.  I use the same paint brush for the next part.  Take the color white dabbing a small amount each time when your running out and using a small amount on your paint brush and in a circular motion blend the white over top of the colors on the stone to get that blended in stone look.  You can use different colors for different color stones use your imagination and it will soar!

Continued kitchen stove, dishwasher and sink for dollhouse

This is what I started with, it’s a piece from a trophy.  If you see trophies for free there are a lot of parts you could use to make things. I’m going to make a kitchen stove, dishwasher and sink for a dollhouse.

This is what this piece looks like from this angle.  Now to start adding the black foam board...

I added foam board to the sides, top and lastly the front.  You don’t need to add any to the underside or the back if you are going to glue it against a wall in a dollhouse.

Next I used these thin wooden stirrer type sticks.

This is where you decide where to place the stirrers to form the stove, dishwasher and sink area.  You can see where I glued down sticks to divide up the areas.

This is what the sides look like. I've found that by adding these stirrers, it gives it depth. Rather than just painting them.

This is the studded belt that I used to make "tiles" on the countertop over top of the dishwasher. I glued them down with a hot glue gun and tacky glue.

Here’s what it looks like with the tiles glued down.

I cut this piece of black foam board which I bought from the dollar store for the sink. My post before this one shows you how to make the sink.

In this picture you can see the sink, dishwasher and the stove.  I downloaded pictures off the internet for these areas, I mod podged the pictures on so it looks like they are really there. In the area under the sink I added some pieces of a gutter guard and two wooden beads for the cabinet knobs.

Another view.

And another.

Make sure you check out the post about making the sink faucet, knobs and dish sprayer. Use your imagination and it can soar!

Making a faucet, dish sprayer and handles for a sink for your dollhouse

In this picture you can see the fasteners that I used to make the handles for the sink.
This is the top of the sink that I’m going to put the faucet on, sprayer and handles.  This piece is made of black foam board. Easily found at an office supply store or craft store.
I cut off most of the stems off the paper fasteners (Otherwise the flat bit would be too long and would punch through the other side of the foam board).  Then I took my razor knife and put two slits in the top and put a drop of hot glue in the slit and pushed in the fasteners.
This is what you are going to need for the faucet, a small screw and a piece of wood square shaped.
In this picture you can see that the little screw has been put into the piece of wood towards one end.

You need to cut down the two corners of the front of the wood to round off the front of the faucet.  Also, cut a piece off the wood and glue it to the other end underneath to give the faucet height.
In this picture you can see the faucet piece glued onto the foam board.
Now for a dish sprayer I used headphone earpieces, which you can purchase at the dollar store.  I cut the wire off and leave just a little piece of the wire so I can glue this into a hole that I make in the foam board with a push pin.
In this picture you can see the hole I made in the foam board and the push pin I used I wiggled it around to make the right sized hole.
In this picture you can see the dish sprayer glued on the foam board.
I then used nail polish and painted the handles, faucet and sprayer all the same color. I also painted a ring around the sink.  The next blog I will be showing you the kitchen cabinet that this is on.  Then I will show the finishing things for the whole piece.  Check out the other entries blogs to see how to make a stove, sink base and dishwasher one piece unit.

Wedding Solar Lamp

Here's another new project.  As you can see in the picture this is an old outside fixture with rounded glass inserts.  This is one of the fixtures I will be using.

Here is the other item I will be using, an old brass lamp.

After I took apart the old brass lamp these are the parts that I have to work with.  I took out all the electric from the lamp.

This is the long bar which you find inside of lamps when you take them apart, it holds the parts of the lamp together.  These are the bars I reuse to put different parts together, they have threads on both ends with bolts.

As you can see in the picture I've added a couple of new items which I will be using.  A globe from a light fixture, two pieces located in the front from other light fixtures that I kept from past projects.  Also you will see on the end the old light fixture without the glass, which I took out to clean up.  The brass lamp was put together a little differently with the bar, to the way I wanted it and bolted into place on both ends.

These are the two pieces from other fixtures that I am using with this project.

After hot gluing them both together this is what they look like installed on top of the lamp.

Here is another view of what they look like on top of the lamp.

I've been waiting along time to use this decorative piece for one of my projects.  As you can seen it is an egg with a bride and groom on the inside which is decorated beautifully.  I love this piece.

As you can see I hot glued this item on top of the two pieces that I already installed on top of the lamp.  It makes a great looking stand.

I then put the glass pieces back into the old light fixture and put it on top of the lamp, you would think they both were together to start with they matched up perfectly!  I also added some fake white beads.  The bride and groom are now inside a glass in dome.

This is what the project looked like at the end.  I installed the other light fixture on top of the glass dome with hot glue, I love hot glue.  I also added some fake white beads as you can see in the photo.  I topped it off with a top off a solar light, at night it lights up the glass fixture.  Just remember you need to let the solar light get the rays from the sunlight so it can light at night.   This piece would be great for someone that just got married, or if your having a bridal shower and need a center piece for the bride and grooms table.  Or even an anniversary that you just don't know what to give them.  I hope you enjoyed this one!!

Paris themed solar light display

This post will include a list of necessary items to complete the project, as well as a step by step instructional on how to construct this wonderful solar powered display unit. (Photos included)

This project includes the following items-
  1. An old lamp base
  2. Top part of an old lamp fixture
  3. Solar light top
  4. Mirror disk from Michaels Craft supply store
  5. A Paris themed snow globe (Small)
  6. Black Spray Paint

This is the old lamp base as well as the top part of a light fixture.
This piece was spray painted black (NOT THE GLASS) to give it more of a rustic feeling.
This mirror disk bought from Michaels is what we are going to be inserting through the top of the old lamp unit to create a reflection of light when the solar light is installed.

This piece is the top of a solar light purchased from WalMart. This piece was also spray painted black in order to match the lamp fixture. (Solar light top must fit the top, and cover the hole on the top of the lamp fixture)

After installing the disk mirror (From Michaels) this is what it should look like from the top. This piece is also going to be hot glued to the bottom of the light fixture inside of the glass display. As you can see it is a mirror which will increase the amount of light that will be given off by the solar light we are going to be installing next.

This is a Snow Globe bought from a garage sale. It will be shortly installed on top of the mirrored disk with hot glue.

After installing the Paris themed globe, it should resemble something like this.

Next you are going to install the solar light top inside of the hole on the top of the light fixture. NOTE: DO NOT glue the solar light on the light fixture, as the batteries inside of the light may need replacing after a period of time.

Once the project is complete, when it get dark; it should light up, and give off extra light due to the mirror plate. Which will also light up the Paris themed snow globe inside of the light fixture, which will enhance the ability to see the Eiffel tower.
NOTE: Any snow globe or small figure can be installed in place of the snow globe.

This project is perfect for anyone that wants to light up their yard at night, a walk path, or to be displayed inside as decorative piece inside your home. Also can be used as a night light for a child. However you do need to make sure that the solar light top get enough light to charge through the day so it can function properly at night.
