Making beautiful wainscoting with playing cards and popsicle sticks

This is what the room looked like when I first started. A nice blank canvas to work on. I just gave it a quick coat of any color paint.

I then decided to use these playing cards, I liked the design.

In this picture you can see what the room looks like now.  I started next with the door and glued down one card on the bottom next to the door on the left side of the picture.  Next I use hot glue and glued down one popsicle stick next to it the same height as the card.  Then I lay a card down and used tacky glue, then another popsicle stick.  I did this all around the room, sometimes you might have to cut the cards to fit different areas. Like under the windows, I simply turned the cards sideways and also cut them to fit the area.  After I finished this part the next thing I did is to make a border around the top edges of the cards using popsicle sticks. After you make this border go all the way around, you then add one more border around the area where you can see the gap between the card and the top border.  Hopefully you will understand with the pictures.

Another view.

And another view. Use any playing cards you want, use your imagination and it will soar!

Making a beautiful night light with a solar light

Here's what the solar lights look like, I use a lot of them. Your can purchase them at Walmart for 97 cents each.  We will be using the black cap part that's where the solar panel and light is.

I got this beautiful ornament from a flea market really cheap. Why was it cheap you might ask? Because it had no LED in the candle.

You can see in this photo it was a Hallmark ornament, well time to light it up.

Here's the part of the solar light we are using. See how it lights right up when the panel is in darkness?

If you look on the bottom you will see how I just put the solar piece right into the hole on the bottom. Instant light! Just make sure that you keep the rest of the solar light stick so you can recharge the light in the sun, then when you want the ornament to light up put the black cap back in the ornament.  There are so many ornaments that you can light up with a solar light.  Think of how many times you are having a party in a hall and are looking for a unique centerpiece something that hasn't been done before.  If the solar light is charged in the sunlight all say it will stay lit for your party all night.  Use your imagination and it will soar!

Making perfume bottles for your dollhouse

I went to a flea market today and bought necklaces that also came with earrings, for a very good price and from a beautiful woman.  I love necklaces; you can get a lot of perfume bottles from a necklace. Here are the necklaces I used for this craft.

I had to print out some perfume labels off the internet so I have them for the perfume bottles.  You can look up labels on yahoo or google under images.

If you look at this picture you can see the beads I glued together to make the perfume bottles with E6000.  you can also see the labels I glued onto them with mod podge.

I used poker chips for under the perfume bottles. I painted around the edges of them with gold.

Here is another close up.

And another..

And another...

Here is another closeup.  Use your imagination and different necklaces, and your imagination will soar!

Making dollhouse railings from a salvaged Barbie dollhouse

In this picture you can see the piece I took off a plastic Barbie doll house. They were orange.

In this photo you can see how I cut one piece into many, painted them with nail polish and put some nail polish sprinkles on the top diamond on it.  Using pieces from a plastic Barbie doll house or any plastic house can be turned into anything you can think of.  Use your imagination and it can soar!

Another view, which I also added some miniature lighthouses to the front also.

Another view.

How to make floating shelves for a dollhouse

I cut a piece of wood for the size I wanted the shelf to be. You could use one of the paint stirring sticks for this part.

I then glued a piece of felt to the top.

I cut a piece of cuboid shaped wood for under the shelf that I glued towards the back for security and stability to help when gluing it all onto the wall.

This is what it looks like when it’s glued on.

I then took this piece of trim work and glued it around the front and sides of the shelf for decorative reasons.

This is what the shelf looks like above the sink, stove and dishwasher.  My other blog post shows you how to make this one piece. Use your imagination, and it will soar!

Making a glass coffee table for dollhouse

In the craft stores they sell little wooden boxes, this used to be one.  I took the screws out of it and I am using the top piece for the table. Keep the screws in a little medicine bottle just in case you ever need them, the bottom of the box should be put away to use for another project.

You will need to cut a piece of wood the size of the bottom of the top piece.  If you don’t have wood use a thick piece of cardboard.

Now choose a piece of wide ribbon or material that you will be using to cover over the one side of the cardboard piece.

In this picture you will see that I glued this ribbon material over one side of the wood piece.

I chose this cameo for on this red ribbon which I glued down into place.  You can put whatever you want in it, small photos of the family, a small necklace made out of small beads the list goes on and on.  This will be one of those tables you can see items in.  You can even glue down small shells, use your imagination!

Next glue the top onto the red velvet piece that has items glued down to it.

I am showing the side of the box where the screws were removed, we will be taking care of that in a moment.

I took brown paint using my finger, painted the top and sides. When you do this it looks like you stained it.

In this picture you can see how I glue things I first put on some glue in different spots, then I used hot glue gun in the spots that the tacky glue is not.  This way the hot glue holds the piece while the glue is drying. In the picture to the right, you can see ribbon that I will be gluing on the bottom edge to hide the screw area.  I glue this all around the bottom as you will see in the next photo.

In this picture you will see the ribbon.

For the legs of this table I chose these pieces of wood I had laying around.  I cut the pieces down so I have flat bottoms using the item I have in the next photo.  I then paint them brown the same way I did the coffee table top.

This is the tool I always use,  easy!

I then glued the legs on after I cut them down.

This is what the top looks like right now before painting some gold detailing.

This picture you can see gold detailing which I use craft smart brand, the color is metallic Gold.

Another view of this table.  Make the inside of this table personalized to fit into a vacation scene, special day etc.  use your imagination and it will soar!

Making an Aladdin themed room for a dollhouse

This is the Aladdin themed room, as you can see you can take a small area in an attic space in your dollhouse and turn your imagination into something unique for a child to love.
For the inside area of the triangle on the wall where the window is, I used a paper napkin that had a design on it.  If you have decorative paper napkins you can use mod podge to put them on the walls.  I chose this design, it’s easier to match up and make everything look the way it does.  The area is a strange shape to work with. The wallpaper I chose is the pink one you see on the left in the picture, which I use tacky glue to glue it onto the walls.
You can download all types of designs from the internet, I thought I'd use this one...
I wanted to put in a long bench under the window area, so I measured the space and cut two different pieces of wood, one for the base and one for the top of the bench.  I glued them both together and added a piece of gold paper trim that you see in the picture to the front of the bench. I then added some half round glass jewels to the front.
This is the wood with the gold trim on it.  >>-------->
In this picture I am showing you pieces off a plastic dollhouse that I took apart. The mirror, the poles, the little jewel jar looking thing, the two blue cloud looking items. I put Aladdin in one and Jasmin in the other.  I also put red velvet material on the seat area under the window.
In this picture you can see spherical styrofoam purple balls at the bases of the columns. I also added a little flower arrangement. Just use your imagination, and it will soar!
