Making a wishing well for a Dollhouse

You are going to start with a mini clay pot.  Start cutting out square pieces of an egg carton.

This is one of the egg cartons that I will cut square pieces out of.  Next you need to glue the squares around the top ring of the clay pot.  You will see what it looks like in the photo above.  After you do one layer around the top, you then put pieces another layer between each of the first pieces.  I glued down these pieces with a mixture of wood glue mixed with flour.  This makes a very thick paste and this the glue you will be using. When it dries, it will be harder than a rock.

You will then coat the whole clay pot with the wood glue and flour mixture, add some gray paint to the wishing well.  You will then cut two popsicle sticks for the side pieces that will hold up the roof.  On the top of the popsicle sticks you will cut angles on them, so the roof pieces will lay on them. Also cut two pieces for the roof and glue them in place.

Then make a mixture of gray paint mixed with craft sand which you see at a flea market etc. Paint the whole thing with this paint.  Then add some black paint to this mixture and using your paint brush dab on some of this darker gray shade.

With a thin brush paint brush, paint lines around the top like lines you would see from the spacing in the brick.  Then take some white paint and highlight some areas. Do the same for the bottom.

You will need a rook from a chess set.  You will be cutting off the top of it for a pail.

In this picture you can see the top piece cut off of the rook which is going to be the pail.  If you don't have this chess piece you can use a toothpaste cap in its place.

You then need to drill a hole through the pail from side to side so you can run a string through it.

In this picture you can see the string I used.

In this picture I took the small dowel and put the string over top of it and then glued in the dowel from one side of the popsicle sticks to the other, holding the pail in place.  I then put some hot glue in the pail and took a blue marker to make it look like water.

This is what it looks like finished. I am using this for a room in a dollhouse. I'm working on the themed room that is Snow White and the seven dwarfs inspired.  Use your imagination and it will soar!

Making beautiful wainscoting with playing cards and popsicle sticks

This is what the room looked like when I first started. A nice blank canvas to work on. I just gave it a quick coat of any color paint.

I then decided to use these playing cards, I liked the design.

In this picture you can see what the room looks like now.  I started next with the door and glued down one card on the bottom next to the door on the left side of the picture.  Next I use hot glue and glued down one popsicle stick next to it the same height as the card.  Then I lay a card down and used tacky glue, then another popsicle stick.  I did this all around the room, sometimes you might have to cut the cards to fit different areas. Like under the windows, I simply turned the cards sideways and also cut them to fit the area.  After I finished this part the next thing I did is to make a border around the top edges of the cards using popsicle sticks. After you make this border go all the way around, you then add one more border around the area where you can see the gap between the card and the top border.  Hopefully you will understand with the pictures.

Another view.

And another view. Use any playing cards you want, use your imagination and it will soar!

Making bottom trim for a dollhouse

This is the room that I need trim for on the bottom of the walls.

All you need are scrabble pieces and popsicle sticks. You can find old Scrabble games at garage sales or flea markets for cheap (usually missing a few pieces).

The first thing you're going to do is glue the scrabble pieces down around the bottom of the walls. When you get to an area that the whole scrabble piece won't fit you are going to need to cut it down. In the next photo I will show you the tool that I use.

This will be your favorite tool, it cuts fantastic, the best part is you can buy it online.  I cut the scrabble pieces down with this if I need to. It'll cut through quite a few materials and items that are otherwise difficult to cut.

In this picture I also added popsicle sticks over the scrabble pieces on the bottom touching the floor. It makes for pretty good bottom trim.  I then painted over the whole thing with paint that I mixed with crafting sand that children use at carnivals.  This way, it fills in small openings and gives texture to the bottom trim.  So if you don't have money for trim, make your own its cheaper. Use your imagination and it will soar!

How to make playing card wallpaper for dollhouse

These are the playing cards I decided to use.

You can see in this photo that the playing cards are glued to the walls and popsicle sticks are used on the sides of the cards.  I also put popsicle sticks on the tops. You can use any playing cards. Use your imagination and it will soar!

Putting a wooden floor on a porch for a dollhouse

I use popsicle sticks for my dollhouse wooden floors, for cutting the popsicle sticks I use Midwest products Easy Cutter which cuts angles also. I start in the corner so I can make a design in the corner area.

This is what the corner looks like after I make all the cut pieces for the design.

This shows you what the front of the dollhouse looks like with popsicle sticks.

This is another view of the floor.

After staining the popsicle sticks using easy wax early American color, this is what the wood looks like.

Another view of the floor.

Also another view.  Popsicle sticks save you money on flooring and with the wood cutter it’s very easy to cut them.

This is what the Easy Cutter looks like.

This is the stain I used.

Making an antique looking bathtub for your dollhouse

This is the bathtub I am going to show you how to make.

You will need Popsicle sticks for the siding on the sides of the tub.

You will also need some cheap earrings for the decorative pieces.  I buy earrings from the flea market for $1.00  you can get a lot of beautiful pieces if you take the earrings apart.  You will need the backing pieces off the back of the earrings for the faucet handles.

You need to cut out four pieces of strip wood to make the sides of the tub.  I just use what ever strips of wood I have laying around.  The large paint sticks you get free at the paint store for mixing paint would work for this also.  The length of the pieces you will need are two  4 inch long pieces and two  1 7/8 inch pieces. It all depends on the size tub you want to make.

You will need a piece of thin wood to make a bottom of the tub.  Once the tub pieces are put together then you will be able to cut a piece of this wood for the bottom.

The first thing you need to do is hot glue one of the short pieces on one of the long pieces.  Make sure the short one is hot glued to the inside of the other piece.

Then you hot glue on another one of the long pieces on.

You then hot glue the last piece on.

This is a piece of the thin wood that I cut to the size of the bottom of the tub.

I hot glued the thin piece to the bottom.

This is another view of the bathtub.

Now it's time to cut the Popsicle sticks for the sides of the tub.  You can see in the photo the first stick.

This is one side with the Popsicle sticks done.

Here is another side done.

I did three sides with the sticks, not all four sides.  I wanted it to sit flush against the wall.

I then put Popsicle sticks around the top ledge to have a hangover on the tub.

Here's what it looks like with all three sides done.

I then painted it all with dark brown paint.  After it dried I used sandpaper and made it look old.

This is another view.  In the picture you can see the earrings that I took the posts off of.  I also took the cameo out of an earring.  And the backing that hold the earrings on your ears.

In the photo you can see I hot glued the three pieces off the earrings on the front and I used the two backing for the water faucet handles.  You can use your imagination for a faucet.

I wanted to show you what I use for cutting the popsiclesticks and other wood strips.

If you do dollhouse things this is a must to have.

You can even cut angles with it.
