This is what the dollhouse looked like when I first started, no roof. It looked very plain. My husband cut me out a roof and I put my cardboard shingles on it and painted them black. I always cut my own roof shingles out of cardboard it's cheap and FREE!
Here's what the inside looked like.
There was no railing around the opening of the staircase on the upper level. So I started to build one. I first cut a piece of balsa wood the size around the staircase opening. If you notice the holes in it I used a pencil to make some holes where I'm going to be installing the spindles.
In this picture you can see the materials I'm using for building the railings. The balsa wood with the holes in it, The cut spindles which was a skewer I cut to the lengths I needed.
In this picture you can see I hot glued the spindles into the holes.
I then cut popsicle sticks for the bottom which I also hot glued into place.
I made the railing going up the staircase the same way except I didn't add a bottom rail I just hot glued it to the stairs.
Here's what it looked like after I painted the stairs and railing.
I made shutters for the front of the house. As I always make them in my blogs I used popsicle sticks.
This is what I looks like at this point.
I needed some beds for the bedroom. I needed two beds so I made them from these materials. I decided not to use the ball looking pieces of wood the bed turned out high enough. I cut the design pieces for a head board and a footboard. You will see what they look like glued onto the rectangular type box.
I painted the bed after gluing on the pieces of decorative trim on the top and bottom. I then made a mattress out of a piece of foam board cut to size and hot glued a piece of material which I purchased from the dollar store which was a baby blanket type material. I made a blanket and pillow. The pillow is a piece of foam board with a piece of velvet material hot glued on it.
This is the second bed, it was made the same way, but I used different decorative pieces. You can find these decorative pieces in Michaels craft store in the seasonal area. They were ornaments which you can paint made of wood.
This is a base which was from a trophy I took apart. I always take trophies apart and use them they work GREAT! This is going to be the base of my Fireplace/Plasma TV.
I am taking this hard felt and hot glueing it to the bottom of the marble base to cover the holes.
This is a small crate which I purchased from Michaels craft store, this will be the fireplace.
This cabinet I will take out the shelves and use this for the start of my Plasma TV. The bottom of this cabinet I used to make a hope chest for in the parlour area of the house. If you can see it in the photos below it is located behind the sofa.
This is what the marble base looked like after adding the felt on the bottom.
I also added a piece of felt to the top of the crate. Which is this really the bottom of the fireplace.
Around the crate I added pieces of wood which you will see at the bottom of my posting. I added them all around the crate so it is now closed up except for the front of the fireplace.
I then put some wood across the top of the crate and added the cabinet to the top. This is what it looked like at this point.
I then went on line and printed out a picture of a fireplace scene. I also added two earrings to the front. I will show you at the bottom what it turned out to look like.
I made a sofa out of a domino for the back, a clothes pin for the arms. I used a large wooden matchstick cut to size which holds up the arms. I also used a domino for the bottom seat.
This use to be a piece off a lamp which I'm using for a decorative piece for on the wall in the dollhouse. I added a bead in the middle to make it look different.
Believe it or not I used one of these pieces to make the kitchen base cabinet. These came off a trophy which was taken apart.
I put foam board around the sides and the top. I also added popsicle sticks around the sides and front. In the end of this post you will see how it turned out.
This is what the house turned out to look like in the front when I was finished.
This is what the inside looks like. The bedroom is on the top floor. You can see the two beds I made. I also added a little wagon filled with wood pieces and other items.
This is the parlour area. You can see the fireplace/plasma tv. This plasma lights up at night I drill a hole in the back of the cabinet which the top of a cheap solar light fits right into. In the fireplace I added some pieces of tree branches for wood. I'll show you in the bottom of the post a better photo. You can also see the hope chest that used to be the bottom of the cabinet which is located in back of the sofa.
This is the kitchen area. You can see the cabinet I made from the trophy. I added some details to it and painted some grates on top to look like a stove. There are pots and pans on top. I also added two cabinet tops for the wall cabinets. In the background on the wall are old salt and pepper holders.
This is the bathroom area. My husband made me a toilet, bathtub and a sink from clay. I used got glue in the toilet to make it look like water and I also used the hot glue for in the bathtub I even made some run down out of the faucet in the tub area. I added a little hook that holds a baby face rag. The floor was a placemat that I cut up.
This is another look at the bedroom.
This is the attic area, you know the attic is always cluttered.
this is another view of the attic area.
These are the wooden pieces I used in this project for the fireplace base.
/This is a piece I cut off a piece of fabric that I put a popsicle stick frame around it and hung it on the kitchen wall.
This is what the cabinet/stove looks like. I used some cheap checker pieces for the knobs and dominoes I used for the front panels. I cut the dominoes in half for the decorative look on the front. I also put one row of small blue tiles on the back wall to look like a backsplash.
This is a closeuup of the bathtub with the hot glue dripping from the faucet.
I needed a medicine cabinet for the bathroom so I took a cheap wood cabinet a apart and used the back and put a flat piece of wood on the front of it. I used the hinge that came with the cheap wood box. I also added a mirror on the front and used a top that I had laying around from a porcelain teapot. I didn't have a teapot for the top so I used it for a handle instead.
This is what the inside of the cabinet looks like. I added some little jars which were nail supplies I bought in the dollar store. They sell kits for doing nails in the nail polish area, these make great spice bottles for a kitchen area in a dollhouse or for bath salts in the bathroom area.
This is what the fireplace/Plasma Tv turned out to look like. You can see the wood I added to the inside. It looks like a real working fireplace. The top lights up with a solar light at night. It really looks like someone is watching TV at night. Remember things that you see in the dollar store can be used for other things. Use your imagination it can save you alot of money when furnishing a dollhouse.
