My husband saw this dollhouse on the garbage and couldn't leave it there when he knew there was a little girl out there that would love it. So .....Here is what the front of the dollhouse looked like that day. Notice no window in the top, no doors, no railing on the top. The right side of the roof was not attached it was just sitting on top. It was also missing one of the poles that hold up the porch roof.
The whole top dormer was missing, and the door on the bottom. Again notice no railing. It was also missing trim around the top of the porch area.
This is what the inside looked like.
As you can see in the photo I built a window frame out of wooden stirrers and added some clear plastic to the back of the window frame. You can use the plastic that is from photo covers. I also added some wooden stirrers and cut little decorative pieces for on the side of the front door to give it a decorative look. The pole in the front I used a piece of balsa wood which is soft and a piece of sandpaper to make it a decorative pole. I also made a railing out of pieces of balsa wood. I added some trim pieces around the edge of the floors. If you keep the pieces of wood that are left over from punching out pieces from a dollhouse kit, you will have wood pieces you can use. I keep all the pieces that are left so I can use them for another dollhouse.
In this picture you can see a piece of trim I had to make for the top of the porch area, and also the railings.
I used three pieces of wood cut to size that I needed for the front doors and the other door. If you look at the pieces I used for the decorative parts they are from a wood sheet from a dollhouse kit. Don't throw it out reuse it!
Here is another view of the front door. On the left you can see the pole I made.
This is what it turned out to look like in the front after I attached the doors on the front and painted it the way I wanted it.
Here is a picture of the side of the house.
This is the dormer area which i used parts of a cheap wooden bird feeder. The bird feeder was the shape of a gazebo which I purchased in Michaels craft store. You can take it apart and have different pieces to use.
I decided I wanted the window to look stained glass. So I had some window film that I added to the back frames. I then took wooden stirrers sticks to make a frame around the window frame so it looked finished off.
This is what it ended up to look like.
The house had no railing on the second floor so I made my own.
This is what the front windows look like with solar lights on the inside. Best of all no Electric, Solar!!!
This is what the house ended up to look like.
I added some fake flowers in small vases in the front porch.
Here is the side of the house.
This is the inside. If you follow my blogs you would see what paper I used for the walls. Also you would see how I made the beds. I also have a hanging birdcage on the ceiling in one of the bedrooms. I used a childrens domino set for pictures on the wall in the pink bedroom, You can use anything use your imagination!!
Here is a closeup of one of the bedrooms.
Here's a closeup of the kitchen area.
Heres another bedroom area, see the dominos on the walls. It is so much fun personalizing a dollhouse! Your children would have a ball drawing some pictures and then you could shrink them down to size on a printer and frame them in a small frame and hang them on the walls. If you see a dollhouse on the garbage don't be afraid to try, it could be something that is fun for a child to work on or yourself.
