How to make beds for Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs

In this picture you can see that you need to cut two pieces of wood round on the tops and a flat bottom for the head and footboards. You will also need to cut a piece of wood that attaches the headboard to the footboard.  Make sure you attach the mattress about a quarter inch from the bottom of the head and footboards.  Using a piece of cardboard, measure a size that will fit on top of the bed frame to make a mattress.  Take the piece of cardboard and hotglue a piece of batting material on it.  Then take some material and cover over the batting, glue down the material to the back, then glue the whole mattress down to the frame.

I used the figure to make the beds the proper size.

Then I paint the frame brown. That's the color it is in the movie, next is to write the names on the footboards. I also added designs to the head and foodboards. Use a fine sharpee for this, it's easier.

I used images off the internet for the designs that I drew on the beds. Use your imagination and it will soar!

Making Andy's bed from Toy Story Part II

If you haven't seen the 1st part, it's here. It will show you how I made the frame.

I glued a piece of the balsa wood on both the head and footboard.

Then I painted the whole bed dark brown.

You then can take a piece of cardboard, a little smaller than the inside area of the mattress, box spring area.  Once you cut the cardboard, you hot glue on a piece of stuffing material. Batting is the name of the material used for the cushioning.

Then you cover it with a piece of mattress cover material.

Here it is with the mattress glued down to the frame.

You then take the material that you are going to make a blanket out of and cut the size you need, hot glue the sides together, unless you want to sew it together. I used an old hand towel.

Now to make a pillow! I made it out of some batting material and put a piece of material covering it.

This is what the finished bed looks like.

This is another view. Use your imagination and it will soar!

Making Andy's bed from Toy Story Part I

The first thing I did was draw a picture of the headboard and foot board.

I used balsa wood which is a soft wood and it is easy to work with. I cut out the footboard.

I then cut out another footboard but this time I cut out a piece of moon shape in it, this is going to be the headboard.

Then I cut out the two pieces that go under the head and footboards.

I then used a round toothpick to make the pieces that attach the top of the head and footboards to the supports.  I used the end of the toothpick to make a hole in both pieces and then cut small pieces of the toothpick to make "dowels". Then I poured glue on both ends and connected the two pieces together.  I had to do this to the footboard and headboard.

In this picture both pieces are glued together. The toothpick "dowels" really help out.  I then took a screw driver and made a dent in the top middle and bottom middle, its time to put the decorative lines in it.

I added toothpicks that I cut down and made the dents in the wood so that the toothpicks could be glued down.

These two pieces of wood came from something I broke apart, that's where I get a lot of my wood from.  I cut these pieces down to the size of the side railings for the sides of the bed frame.  It all depends on how big I want the bed to be.

I then took a dowel and cut pieces that will go on the front and back of the bed.  If you look at the photo you will see the poles.  I picked these beads that you see on the tops of the dowel.  I had to whittle away some of the width of the tops of the dowel so they would fit the beads.  I glued the dowels into the beads.

In this picture you can see where I glued the posts on and also the side railings.

This is another view.

I then cut a piece of the balsa wood to make the floor of the bed, this is where the mattress will sit.

I then glued on a piece of balsa wood across the bottom to give it a finished look.

The rest of the steps will be here, part II

Making a crib for a dollhouse

Today, I going to be making a crib for a dollhouse. First I made two railings out of cardboard from a play doh box. To make things easier I used a railing from a dollhouse as my template. Stencils and templates can be a lifesaver.

Then, I made two of the railings and cut four pieces of popsicle sticks to glue onto the tops and bottoms of the railings. When I cut these popsicle sticks, I used my Easy Cutter. It makes cutting things like popsicle sticks much easier. There is also an angle plate on the tool so you can cut angles into materials.
This is what they looked like with the popsicle sticks glued on. I had used tacky glue to get everything locked in place.

I then cut a headboard and footboard for the crib. As you can see here.

Once I had all the pieces made and ready to be put together, I painted all the pieces off white and then pink on top.
Subsequently I glued the pieces together after it had finally dried.
I then cut two popsicle sticks for on the sides of the railings to hold up the mattress.
I then made a mattress by cutting a piece of cardboard and gluing on a piece of pillow making material foam and then I covered it with a mattress cover material.
I added some material to the bottom on both sides. I think it adds to the aesthetic.

Here I'm showing you the pictures I found on the internet.  I cut them out and mod podged them to the headboard and footboard.
In this picture you can see the pictures that were glued on with mod podge and I also hand painted designs on the crib. You can also use stencils if you are so inclined.

And another view. This baby is ready for night, night.

Making an old looking bed for a dollhouse from coasters

In this picture you can see the two coasters I cut down to make a headboard and footboard.  I also used wood from a closet door which are the slats of wood that always fall out.  You know which doors I’m talking about they never stay together, if you see them on the garbage take them home those slats of wood are great for making items.  I made the two frame slats for the sides of the bed and also cut two pieces to glue on the side slats that the mattress is going to sit on.

If you have magazines you can find beautiful pictures to mod podge on the wood, I used this magazine for pictures. They have beautiful items.

Here’s the pictures I found for the bed the two angels for the headboard and a sleeping angel for the footboard. I also spotted a powder room sign that I’m going to use to make a plaque for the little bathroom in the dollhouse.  I’ll post that also when I do it.
In this picture you can see I glued on the side rails, I made sure to measure the length using one of the small dolls.

This is the glue I used, I mix flour with wood glue to make a great glue.  Once this dries it’s as hard as a rock, it’s also good for filling cracks and also fixing outdoor statues, who knew right?
In this picture I glued on the little long pieces of slats onto the larger ones to hold up the mattress.  These clamps I buy at a flea market they are cheap and great for small projects.
In this picture you can see I mod podged on the pictures.

Once I mod podged them on I brush the whole area over the picture and the wood with mod podge to seal it.  Then I take watered down brown paint and use my finger to put a little over the area to give it an aged look I also put some watered down black paint on just the wood not over the pictures.  I use my finger to take some off too.

You can see I also use folk art #577 metallic Sahara gold paint to make some detailing on it.  Older furniture always has some gold detailing on it.

Another picture that you can see the detailing.
These are the paints I used.
I love making my own mattresses.  I use a piece of cardboard cut down to the size I need to fit the inside but I cut it a little smaller once you add the stuffing on top and than the material it takes up space.  First the cardboard then on top of that I hot glue down a piece of the material that is used to make square pillows, this material is thick so I pull it apart in the middle to make two pieces of it and use one piece.  Then I use a mattress cover material to wrap around the top around to the underside hot gluing it down as I put it on.  Then it gets glued down onto the two boards on the inside wall of the frame.  Make sure you check the fit of it before gluing it down.  Remember to cut the cardboard smaller in the beginning or you will find it’s to big to fit on the inside once your done.

These are the supplies that I used to create this project.
